Business ideas? (advice and tips also welcome)?

I'm looking into maybe starting a business in the near future...

I'm planning on making a business that supplies systems (web sites, networks etc) to small organisations such as estate agents etc and maintains it for them for a fee.

I've only done a small amount of research and seems like a good idea, however I would be grateful if anyone with any knowledge or experience in this field could give any tips/ advice.

As I said, i'm still in the planning stages and wouldnt mind any suggestions to change or add to my ideas of services offered.

Any tips on how to go about this would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.Business ideas? (advice and tips also welcome)?
You've picked an area where there's a lot of information online. Here's some other suggestions.

If you've done this type of work for anyone -- ask for letters of recommendations, and referrals.

If this is going to be your SOLE source of income, do you have funds you can live off for awhile? It may take you a year or two to get established.

You might want to keep your day job and do this on a part time basis until you line up a few accounts to cover your minimum costs.

Speak to people you know in the types of businesses you think you can help.

Ask them

what they are looking for in this type of service.

what kind of fees they'd be willing to pay.

what kind of expertise they'd want.

If they have an existing arrangement -- ask them what that person does well and things they wish was offered or done differently.

Research your competition. (be sure to include internet service providers, the cable company, the phone company). What advantages can you offer? Can you offer what they do for the same price or less?

Research your market. Are there 'niche' markets not currently being served?Business ideas? (advice and tips also welcome)?
hi, i don't know much about IT systems but i have started my own business almost 2 years ago so can tell you that planning and research are key things to do before starting up.

to help you prepare here are some of my favourite business advice websites:

hope these help you, and good luck with your ideas x
I sugest you mitigate the risk of a sart up by having one or more solid sidelines.

For instance find a supplier who sells blackberries and get a contract to install BES for thier clients.

Or find a broadband supplier and reccomend them to your custerms, get paid for each one who signs up.

These are called APO's (alternate profit opportunities).

If you want contacts for these two specific apos, email me.

Good Luck
