Take Advil or Motrin to help ease the pain and reduce the swelling that the spacers are known to cause. You will want to stock up on Motrin or Advil during your orthodontic treatment, the ibuprofen works best for all dental discomfort.

You might want to eat some ice cream or sip on ice cold drinks, this will help numb the mouth and ease the pain. You will learn to use all these tricks as you go through your ortho treatment.Any help im in pain with spacers they r annoying and painful any tips or advice.they are hard to not mess with
I know- they really do hurt! I hated having spacers. The only thing I can really tell you to do is suck it up and don't mess with them. It really doesn't take long for the pain to go away.
Well, you really do have something stuck in your teeth! That's why it feels the way it does. Spacers are annoying and if you pick at them it makes it worse. You can take Tylenol or Advil, but the best medicine is going to be time. In about 2 days you should start having relief because the teeth will have moved apart, so the spacers won't cause the same pressure. Just eat soft foods, because you can't chew anyway and don't want to pull out the spacers.

The good news is that most of my patients feel the spacers were the worst part. Putting on the braces themselves is painless, and the bands will slip right over the molars because of the spacers. It will be the best feeling in the world when the spacers come out!
