Can anyone provide me with some advice and tips for cv writing?

I am currently in University and am looking for a job or a summer internship but am having a lot of difficulty writing the cv! Help will be much appreciated. Can anyone provide me with some advice and tips for cv writing?
There are loads of templates for CV writing - either google it or check out the ones that come with Microsoft Office.

In terms of general tips for you:

- Include a personal statement first, explaining what you are currently doing, what you want to do for a career and hence why you are applying for this position (so you may need to tailor this to each application). You can also include a sentence about personal attributes (e.g. ';I have excellent communication skills and work very well in a team';) but if this part is going to be too generic then don't bother

- As a current student with no/limited work experience, put your education at the top of the CV. Do not list every single class that you are taking at university, but do add anything that is particularly relevant. You should also include your A-level grades. With GCSEs you only need say ';Eleven passes at GCSE including English and Maths';. Include details of any academic prizes or awards you have received

- Make sure you include any positions of responsibility and any clubs/societies that you have been involved with at university; however I wouldn't go into detail about high school positions unless you were Head Girl or something extraordinary

- Don't go into too much detail about work experience that isn't relevant. If your only experience is working as a cashier at Tescos, then definitely include it, but you don't need to list every single duty that you undertook - just a very brief summary will do

- Make sure that you include any voluntary work that you have done, even if it was just one day rather than an ongoing thing if relevant

- Your CV at this stage should only be one page long - any longer and you've included too much! Can anyone provide me with some advice and tips for cv writing?
After your title, name, address etc, write a PERSONAL STATEMENT where you give a description of who you are ,ie: 'outgoing', team player' as well as 'can work on your own')

Then list your SKILLS, ie: 'PC/Mac', Excel' etc and your level (beginner, intermediate...), languages...

Then list your EDUCATION and try to emphasize what your course is about and any projects you might have done (such as group projects as this can be useful for a potential employer = transferable skill)

Then list your EMPLOYMENT HISTORY, try to pin point tasks you have had that might be useful for the kind of internship you are after.

Finally you can add ADDITIONNAL INFORMATION such as hobbies, date of birth, age, driving license.

If i can give you one piece of advice though, try not to write too many 'sentences'. I know for a fact that employers want to see bullet points. So when you list skills and tasks try to keep it short and simple.

I have been told by a friend who tempted in a recruitment agency that potential employers spend only an average of 2 minutes looking at a CV! This is crazy but it does not surprise me. The competition is fierce so make sure your CV stands out (bullet points) without being too 'fancy' either!

Anyway, good luck and i hope this helped a bit. All the best.
Never produce more than two sheets. If you are still at university, it really should only take one sheet. Spelling is really important.

Head it Curriculum Vitae and then put your personal details underneath: name, address, date of birth and telephone number, married or single.

Write a short paragraph about your character and personal strengths.

Next any qualifications you already have and underneath that your work experience.

Follow this with your hobbies and whether you have a clean driving licence etc.
