I think i'd also love taking picture's at weddings...Photography work...tips and advice please!?
keep taking photos - practise makes perfect!
be your own critic - it's tough, but you learn from it.
also create your own portfolio, so that you can show off your work at interviews etc. fill it with your best photos.
take up a photography course at college or something similar, it helps to have a bit more skill and know how, and will teach you better/new techniques.
keep taking photos of horse events and if you go to any weddings take loads of photos, but also widen your subjects, look at landscape, portrait, and fashion photography etc. you may find you want to specialise in one of those categories as well.
make sure you really want to do it as a career. the more you want something, the more you'll push to get it!
just keep practising! good luck!Photography work...tips and advice please!?
Stick with the horse events for now. Go, take pictures, be very critical of your work. Work on different types of shots, perfecting them. Get a good hold of how to do panning type shots, getting your timing down for jumps , posing horses and always keeping your eyes open for good background for shots.
Work on that first. Taking pictures at a wedding is like going to a new dentist for a root canal, especially one named Dr. Savagehammer or something painful and destructive sounding.
Advice for the future, practice. Be very critical of your work, study others and make notes of what you like and dislike and do your best to incorporate those aspects into your own photography. Develop your skills and you will develop a style. Don't try to get too diverse, but at the same time don't get yourself stuck in a rut where you're only taking one type of picture. MAKE a good photo, don't just wait for it to happen.
Good Luck to you.
Many years ago Louis Armstrong was walking through New York when someone rushed up to him and asked ';How do I get to Carnegie Hall?'; His answer is very appropriate to you, which was: ';Practice Man, practice.';
Plenty of good advice there Lucy! Shoot lots of photos, look for tutorials on composition, exposure and lighting. Best of luck!
Ok.
A good site to join is http://www.redbubble.com/ and has helped me a lot, by getting critique and lots of help and advice. Totally free also.
As for taking pics at weddings, you had better get a PT job with a photographer for a couple of years so you can learn all the tricks of the trade, lighting, and everything else.
Take LOTS of pictures, and be very critical of your work. Your reputation is made, not by what you show, but by what you throw away
