Teach your pets to sit and teach them down to lay down and teach stay. These are the very basic things all dogs should learn.
Work on clipping thier nails and handling feet and teeth and any part of thier bodies. If you have to put medicine on them or treat an injury it helps to be able to lay them down and work on them with out a fight.
Work with each dog seperately you can not train two with one person.
Get a book I think they have one of those Dog Triaining ofr Dummies books and those are well written and easy to understand and should cover basic stuff that you can do yourself.
It should give you a good start.
