You can plant the seeds by just broadcasting over the soil in late spring, after the ground has warmed up. They will germinate in 7 to 10 days. You can thin the seedlings (easily recognized by the elongated first set of leaves)

but they will grow, competeing with each other even if left crowded. With good garden soil and

watering when dry, the cosmos will start blooming by mid to end summer...my favourite

They self seed pretty well. After last chance of frost in your area, throw em on the dirt, water lightly daily until you see sprouts. Water and fertilize as needed.

Sprout them indoors on wet paper towel in a plastic bag. When they germinate, transplant to another container. I like Jiffy mini greenhouse peat pellets. Transplant outside, full sun.

Sow cosmos seed early in spring. Prepare the soil by first watering the planting area thoroughly. The next day, use a rake to roughen up the surface and broadcast the seed.
