I need advice on how to get a babysitter? Advice and tips ?

I would like different opinions. There are so many options from a family daycare provider (these are people licensed through the state to do childcare), to a private babysitter and then is it best to drop the baby off or have the sitter come to your home, and there is also daycare/nursery programs. What have you found is best in your experience? I would like to hear from moms who have done this a couple of times.I need advice on how to get a babysitter? Advice and tips ?
I run a home daycare, only watching 2 babies my daughter's age, BUT I would never put my own children in one. Having one woman watching kids of multiple ages just isn't right. I have heard horror stories from friends with kids where they went to pick up their kid and a newborn was sitting in a car seat on top of the table. How is that safe with a bunch of 2-3 year olds running around on the floor? Takes one bump for baby to fall.

To me, the best place to leave MY child is in a large daycare where my child is in a room with other kids their age and multiple ';teachers';. If your 3 month old is in a room full of 0-9 month babies no one will be stepping on them or hitting them... and your 2 year old in the 2 year old room will have all toys at his level and age appropriate games and songs. Also, having multiple teachers in one room makes it so you KNOW that they can't hit your child or neglect your child because there is someone there who can step in and stop them.

Having a nanny is all well and good, but it costs a lot more and again you have the whole she is alone with your child and how do you know what really happened during the day? Did your child cry in a crib for hours while she painted her nails and watched tv?I need advice on how to get a babysitter? Advice and tips ?
First of all Family but if you don't have any around I would look into larger daycares but with PLENTY of teacher's. You want to make sure that the ';teacher'; to child ratio is 1 teacher to every 3 children or so depending on the age. OR when I was younger my mom worked nights and had an older woman who had children that were all grown come to ur house and watch us. We called her Aunt Doris even after we didn't need her as our sitter anymore. She was fantastic and knew how to care for us having 3 adult children of her own. I myelf thought of running an ad in the newspaper and putting in the ad that a extensive background check would be done along with police reports etc. This would weed out anyone that had a bad past/record trying to apply ya know? Good luck with your search!!! I hope you find someone you will feel safe with!!
First of all this all depends on how old your child is. If your child is under age 3 and you decide on a family daycare then you are going to pay alot more than if your child was 3 years of age due to the fact that they are in diapers and needing to be changed alot more and schedule of their eating habits (when they have a bottle etc)...I have nothing against a private babysitter in your own home, but you have to have the trust so that nothing gets broken or stolen out of your home, in other words someone you may know or some friends that may have given you someone that they know. (You know what I mean)..Dropping a child off at a private babysitter once again there is nothing wrong with it, but they may not have First Aid which I think is very relevant when babysitting a child. Group Daycare are good, but once again can be expensive if your child is under age 3. If you take your child to any daycare/nursery program it is good for them because they may be around children there own age, but the downfall is your child will get what ever is going around, flu, cold, chicken pox etc...

What ever you do make sure you do your homework..go and talk to the daycare provider, ask for references, ask for an up to date First Aid certificate..(they are issued every 3 years and they must go for a refresher course when it is coming due). A final note...there are pros and cons to every situation whether its in your home or outside of your home, it depends on your situation and what you think will best fit your family situation. Good Luck.
My opinion would be family member and it could be a rotation of location or anywhere if it's family. Otherwise, hire (newspaper, church/synagogue, Craig's List), background check them, and put cameras in the home that you can watch from your office computer to monitor, just in case. My mother watches my daughter (single dad) during the day and that makes me feel that she's safe. I don't like daycare programs because of all the germs involved: there could have been thirty sick toddlers playing with that uncleaned toy before yours, think of that.

Happy New Year!
